What
are other common names for Reishi?
The scientific name for Red Reishi is Ganoderma lucidum, which Chinese
medicine commonly refers to as Ling Zhi.
What
is “Japanese Reishi”?
The term “Japanese Reishi” does not refer to an actual species
of Ganoderma ( Ganodermataceae), a family of Polypore ( Polyporaceae ),
but instead to Reishi that is grown, cultivated, and/or manufactured in
Japan, the country recognized worldwide for maintaining the highest product
quality and business standards in the Reishi industry.
Why
is it important to buy authentic Japanese Reishi products?
Purchasing counterfeit Japanese Reishi products exposes you to significant
health risks in addition to financial losses. Retailers that buy and resell
counterfeit products may also be prosecuted according to the governing
laws in their jurisdiction. Although consumers obviously lose money when
purchasing counterfeit products that do not provide the health benefits
claimed, the greater danger lies in the potentially serious side effects
people may suffer since Reishi products from a fraudulent manufacturer
or packager are more likely to be of poorer quality and may possibly contain
harmful ingredients or bacteria.
How
can I find out if I have purchased a counterfeit Japanese Reishi product?
The easiest way to find out if you have purchased a counterfeit product
is to contact the Japan Reishi Association for the current list of approved
Japanese Reishi products, or to send the packaging of the product in question
to our mailing address. Our associates will
carefully investigate the product and reseller, and we will contact you
to let you know what actions may be taken if you have been sold a counterfeit
product.
How
do I report a counterfeit product?
You may report a counterfeit product to the Japan Reishi Association via
email (info@japan-reishi.org)
or by calling our toll-free number (1-866-573-4744). You may also want
to contact your local government agency to investigate the matter further.
